Jacob Monroe Hates Clowns

New York City
March 2014

Corey Vogel, WHS class of 2009, is bringing his first full length play to a stage in New York City in March of 2014. Corey will be a senior at The New School, a legendary university in New York City, studying Arts in Context with a concentration in theater and writing.

While in Wayland, Corey found his calling to the stage through the Wayland Park and Recreation Summer Theater Program under the directorship of Jim Mullane. His passion solidified in Middle School with Tom Large and ignited as an active member of WHSTE (Wayland High School Theatre Ensemble) under the leadership of Richard Weingartner.

Corey’s play Jacob Monroe Hates Clowns tells the story of “a lovelorn fool who must attend clown college to chase after his childhood crush.” The play reimagines the archetypes of Shakespearean and Greek tragedy alongside the fools of Commedia dell’Arte to create “a hysterical and heartbreaking metanarrative about what it means to dream, need and move on.” Please click the links below to find out more about Jacob Monroe Hates Clowns and how you can help contribute to its production.
