Master class with Todd Brunell sponsored by CAPA

On September 10, 2014, clarinetist and saxophonist Todd Brunell came to WHS and conducted a masterclass with Honors Wind Ensemble. This is part one of two masterclasses – another being planned for concert band. Mr. Brunell worked with the entire ensemble and then held a special sectional for the reed players. Topics he addressed included: warm-up techniques, airflow and breath support, embouchure formation, playing posture/finger alignment, and the benefits of playing music and having good practice routines.

Mr. Brunell is an alumnus of Wayland High School! He is a freelance player in the Boston area and teaches in the Wayland Public Schools After-School-Lesson Program. It was a very rewarding masterclass for all.

Many thanks to Joe Oneschuk for the article and photos! Masterclasses are just one of the many ways that CAPA supports the arts at Wayland High School.
